HOUSE GOP FLOOR LEADER STATE REP. PATRICK WINDHORST WILL SEEK RE-ELECTION

METROPOLIS – State Representative Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) formally announced today that he’s running for re-election. The Metropolis Republican has built a strong conservative voting record since taking office in 2019, amassing a 100% pro-life and 100% pro-2nd Amendment record.

“The people of Southern Illinois have entrusted me to represent their values in Springfield, and I am grateful for the opportunity to serve,” Windhorst said. “I have fought back against the supermajority Democrats in Springfield as they have worked to ban firearms, end cash bail, and expand taxpayer-funded abortion services. I am proud to be able to say that my record on conservative values is strong and consistent.”

Windhorst first took office as State Rep. in 2019, after previously serving as Massac County State’s Attorney from 2004-2018. Windhorst has risen quickly in the House GOP caucus’ leadership and currently serves as the House Republican Floor Leader.

“I believe my constituents are best served when their conservative values are heard in Springfield, and when I can stand in the way of radical liberal legislation to ask tough questions and point out flaws in bills,” Windhorst said. “In my position as Floor Leader, I help to organize and direct debate on key bills and that means greater representation of the values of the people that I serve.”

Drawing on his experience as a prosecutor, Windhorst has defended victims' rights and was a leading voice against the controversial SAFE-T Act that ends cash bail in Illinois and makes the jobs of law enforcement officers more difficult. He also voted against the firearms and magazine ban that is currently being contested in federal court.

“The people of Illinois have become less safe as the result of the passage of the SAFE-T Act and the end of cash bail,” Windhorst said. “At the same time, Democrats passed legislation that limits the ability of law-abiding citizens to have access to commonly used firearms for their own self-defense. This way lies madness. I have stood against the end of cash bail, and I have stood strong for 2nd Amendment Rights.”

Windhorst has worked to make Illinois a better place to live, work, and raise a family. Windhorst believes the path toward turning our state around begins with defending our constitutional rights, being fiscally responsible, governing ethically, lowering taxes, improving the business climate, and increasing public safety. While in office, Windhorst has passed legislation protecting crime victims, helping farmers, addressing the teachers' shortage, and assisting disabled police officers.

Patrick Windhorst and his wife Holly live in Metropolis where they are raising their two children. Windhorst is running in the Republican Primary for re-election as 117th district State Representative. Illinois’ Primary Election will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024.
